2007 Summary of Rule Updates

This is intended as an Overview of the major rule changes for 2007. It also includes reminders from 2006. Please see 2007 US Open rules for complete details. Competitors are responsible for reading all General Rules and applicable Divisional Rules. Complete Entries must be received by October 1, 2007.
- 2007 Division Updates
- A Fast Dance Division has been added to our 2007 schedule.
- Lindy Showcase is not on our 2007 schedule.
- Junior Strictly Swing is not on our 2007 schedule.
- Referee
- The 2007 Judging Panel will include a Referee. The Referee will ensure the rules are followed; i.e. Counting weight support moves, counting lifts, costume violations, improper use of props, etc… The use of video replay will be employed by a 3-person panel to ensure accuracy.
- Cabaret Division
- Our 2007 US Open Cabaret Division will consist of hired acts. It will not be a judged competition. To apply for participation in the 2007 Cabaret Show, please contact our Cabaret Show Director, Phil Adams.
- Showcase Division
- There is no longer a maximum to the number of "In the Air", partner weight support moves that may be performed in a Showcase Swing Dance routine. However, such moves are NOT counted towards meeting the 60% required recognizable swing content rule.
- Short Breakaways (Classic Division)
- A Break of contact followed by side-by-side choreography will result in a penalty and drop in placement.
- A Break of contact must be followed by an immediate effort to re-establish contact (8 Beat maximum).
- Jack & Jill Division
- An All-Star / Advanced Jack & Jill Division was new in 2005.
- This division is open to All-star and Advanced Dancers as documented in the WSDC Directory. Invitational and Champion level competitors are ineligible for this division.
- Classic and Showcase Competitors
- Classic and Showcase competitors are allowed to enter both divisions. Competitors are not allowed to dance with the same partner in both divisions.
- All "Strictly" Divisions
- Entry Fee has been lowered from $75 to $50
- US Open Program will list Names and Hometowns. No Bios. No Photos.
- All Divisions
- A restart will be allowed only if the music system falters or an unforeseen catastrophe occurs.
- Events such as a broken dress strap, untied shoelace, etc… does not warrant a restart.
